Baffle Grease Filters

The second type of grease filter produced by DPL is the all stainless steel Baffle filter. This unit comprises a number of interlocking blades which when assembled form a 2- pass grease removal device. It has a much higher resistance to air flow than the Guardian filter, but the pressure drop remains constant thus ensuring a consistent and predictable air flow.

The grease laden air enters the front of the Baffle filter, and by a series of forced changes in velocity and direction, the grease separates from the air and is deposited on the vertical veins. The deposited grease is then drained off through a number of weep holes into a sealed collection draw or drawers, which must be regularly cleaned.

The Baffle filter also has the advantage over mesh filters in that the grease is collected out of the air stream, and the stainless steel panels act as a barrier to the progress of flames from a flash fire.

Handles are not normally provided with Baffle filters.

The grease removal efficiency of Baffle filters varies between 45% and 60% depending upon the air flow characteristics, and following tests carried out by a NAMAS approved contractor, the data shows the results of various pressure drops in pascals that occur at varying air flows.

Baffle filters are available in three standard sizes of 500 x 500, 500 x 400 and 500 x 250. All units are 50mm wide as standard, and for design purposes, a pressure drop of around 100 pascals should be used to determine the number and size of filter required.
