Supply Air Systems

DPL provide three types of supply air system within the Kingfisher range, and the selection of which system to use will depend upon the individual circumstances that exist in any particular kitchen.

INTERNAIR
The volume of air extracted through a canopy is a function of its length and width. The amount of air supplied through the Internair slot however is a function of the length only, and therefore there is no fixed percentage of the extracted air that can be re-introduced with this canopy. Up to 50% of the extracted volume would be normal for the Internair, but care has to be taken with the design velocity of the supply air, to ensure that it does not 'bounce' off the extract filter. The air should be supplied through an equalisation grid in an insulated plenum, and this system is effective provided the untempered air does not fall below 5 deg C.

TUMBLAIR

TUMBLAIR
Up to 90% of the extract volume can be supplied by using the Tumblair canopy. Tempered air to 14 deg C is supplied at a maximum velocity of 2.0 m/s, through an insulated supply plenum complete with an equalisation grid. The sidewall grille is manufactured from stainless steel perforated sheet, and is designed to provide a limited 'throw' to reduce the risk of draughts caused by air 'bouncing' off other surfaces.

EQUALAIR
The Equalair canopy combines the best features of the Internair and Tumblair canopies where up to 92% of the make-up air can be re-introduced. Assuming that it is decided to replace 25% of the extracted volume through the Internair slot, then the Tumblair portion can introduce up to 90% of the balance, i.e. 67%, giving a total make up air of 92%. The induced air need not be tempered, but the low velocity supply should be as designed for the Tumblair. Each plenum should be complete with vcd's for balancing, insulation and equalisation grids. The separate plenums for each part of the canopy enable clean air extracted from other areas to be re-used, thus reducing plant and energy consumption.
